Karadzic: An Official Report on the Illness Requested

Karadzic did not appear in the courtroom since Monday. The Hague Tribunal does not provide information about the health of the indictees, because they are treated as private and confidential.
In a short session, O-Gon Kwon, presiding Judge of the Trial Chamber, said that until now, The Hague Tribunal has not received an official report about Karadzics illness. Therefore, Judge Kwon requested information from the Secretariat regarding the health condition of the indictee and an estimation on when he might appear in the courtroom.
Karadzics legal adviser Peter Robinson hinted that this could happen as early as Thursday, December 8, when the next hearing is scheduled.
Alan Tieger, Prosecutor of the Prosecution of The Hague Tribunal, reminded the Court that the process can continue even in the absence of Karadzic, who is defending himself, by cross-examination of the witnesses of the Prosecution by Richard Harvey, indictees stand-by counsel, who was appointed to him by the Court at the beginning of the trial.
The Trial Council, however, did not make any decision, but scheduled a new session for Thursday, December 8.
When Karadzics trial is to continue, it was announced that Andras Riedlmayer, the Prosecution expert for destroyed Bosnian religious and cultural heritage, will give his testimony.
Judge Kwon hinted that the Trial Chamber will not be able to meet next week. Therefore, he put forward a proposal that one Judge, in a special procedure, take the statements from next two experts of the Prosecution.
Karadzics legal advisor Robinson objected to this, while Prosecutor Tieger indicated that experts, who arrived from Australia and the United States will not be able to stay in The Hague next week.
The Prosecution of The Hague Tribunal has completed presenting evidence regarding parts of the indictment under which Karadzic is indicted for the persecution of Bosniaks and Croats throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as of terror against civilians by a long-lasting shelling and sniper campaign in Sarajevo and taking UN soldiers hostage in the period from 1992 to 1995.R.M.
