Zecevic et al: Murders Committed by Policemen

24. November 2011.15:09
The Defence of indictee Branko Topola includes material evidence in the case file, saying that those documents show that policemen, and not the Territorial Defence, of which Topola was a member, committed the murders at Koricanske stijene on August 21, 1992. Ranko Dakic, Defence attorney of indictee Topola, presented material evidence at the trial for the Koricanske stijene crime.

A combat report issued by the First Krajina Corps of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, on August 22, 1992, pertaining to the perpetrators of that crime, was among the documents he presented.

“The report mentioned policemen, not members of the Territorial Defence and Topola, as perpetrators of that crime,” Dakic explained.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges Topola, along with Sasa Zecevic, Radoslav Knezevic, Marinko Ljepoja and Petar Civcic, with participating in the separation of civilians from a convoy moving from Prijedor toward Travnik on August 21, 1992, and the murder of about 200 men at Koricanske stijene.

The indictment alleges that Topola was a member of the Territorial Defence and a guard in Trnopolje detention camp, while the other indictees were members of the Public Safety Station in Prijedor.

The Defence of Topola presented a few reports issued by the Safety Services Centre in Banja Luka, which, as Dakic said, indicated that the Chief of the Public Safety Station in Prijedor and policemen, members of that Station, who escorted the convoy, were responsible for the murder of civilians at Koricanske stijene.

The trial is due to continue on December 15, 2011.
