Appearing before the War Crimes Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ljubo Tomic and Krsto Josic pleaded not guilty to charges that they committed crimes against civilians in Zvornik.
Both indictees stated that they did not commit the crimes of which they are charged.
The Prosecution charges the two former members of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, with having participated in the murder of three Bosniak civilians, “by shooting with firearms”, in Kozluk village, Zvornik Municipality, on June 26, 1992.
The indictment alleges that the Bosniaks had been forced to leave Kozluk and had sought shelter in a forest known as “Marhosi”, when they were surrounded by members of the Serb Army. The Prosecution contends that the indictees found the remaining Bosniaks, “recognized them as their neighbours, and shot them, using firearms, with the intention of depriving them of their lives”.
The Court confirmed the indictment in April 2009. By law the trial must begin within 30 days of the plea hearing.
