As proposed by the Defence of Predrag Bastah, the Trial Chamber postponed the hearings, originally scheduled for Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28, 2008, due to the death of Nenad Bastah, the first indictee’s brother.

The Court has allowed Bastah to attend the funeral, “under police escort”, which will take place in Vlasenica on Friday, November 28.

“The Defence considers that it would be immoral to hold the hearing, as the indictee is now under a very strong pressure,” Milorad Potparic, Bastah’s Defence attorney, said.

The State Prosecution charges Predrag Bastah, known as Tsar or Dragan, and Goran Viskovic, known as Vjetar, former members of police and military structures of the Republika Srpska, with torture, deportation, murder and mental abuse of Bosniaks in the Vlasenica area in the course of 1992.

Predrag Bastah has been held in custody since January 29, 2008, while Goran Viskovic is defending himself while at liberty.

The trial is due to continue on December 1, 2008.
