At a status conference held today, presiding judge Vesna Jesenkovic said the trial couldn’t start earlier because the chamber is occupied with other cases and courtrooms are overbooked.

“It’s a problem to find a date when we have a courtroom and the chamber is free,” Jesenkovic said.

She said a date couldn’t be set until 2016, but stated some cases being dealt with by the court were close to completion.

The state prosecution presented its case plan at the status conference, and said it would invite 27 witnesses to testify.

Pazin, Markovic and Kresic, former members of the Croatian Defense Council, have been charged with arresting Bosniak civilians and detaining them in inhumane conditions. During their detention, the civilians were allegedly subjected to physical and mental abuse and other forms of inhumane treatment. The defendants allegedly acted in collaboration with other soldiers.
