Agius Replaces Meron as Hague Tribunal President

Judge Carmel Agius has been elected president of the Hague Tribunal. Chinese judge Liu Daqun has been elected his deputy. Both have been elected to two year mandates.

Agius will be replacing president Theodor Meron. Agius, a Maltesian judge, has been the vice-president of the court since 2011 and will take over as president on November 17.
 
Both Agius and Daqun have served in appeals chambers of international tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda.
 
Agius has worked at the Hague Tribunal since 2001. Daqun has worked at the tribunal since 2000.
