Tolimir was the former assistant commander for intelligence and security affairs at the Main Headquarters of the Bosnian Serb Army. He was found guilty in December 2012 of having associated with other perpetrators, with the aim of committing genocide, extermination, persecution, and forcible resettlement.

Under the first instance verdict, it was determined that Tolimir was also responsible for summary executions of men from the enclave of Srebrenica in July 1995.

Tolimir, who represented himself at the trial, filed an appeal against that verdict. The prosecution did not appeal the verdict.

A five-member appellate chamber chaired by judge Theodor Meron will hand down the verdict in this case.
