Week ahead: Closing Statements at Bugojno Crimes Trial

The presentation of closing statements at the retrial of Nisvet Gasal, Musajb Kukavica and Senad Dautovic, who are charged with crimes in Bugojno, before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina is due to begin next week.

The presentation of closing statements is scheduled for Wednesday, October 2. The Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina revoked a verdict pronounced in November 2011, under which Gasal was sentenced to six and Dautovic to 13 years, while Kukavica was acquitted of charges.

The first, out of 14 State Prosecution witnesses, who are due to testify at the trial of Vehid Subotic, who is charged with crimes in Dusina village, near Zenica, will be examined on Friday, October 4. Subotic, a former member of the Seventh Muslim Brigade with the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is charged with the murder of Croat civilians and captured HVO soldiers in Dusina on January 26, 1993.

On that same day the trials are due to continue in the case against Osman Brkan and Ibro Macic, who are charged with crimes in Konjic, and Safet Mujcinovic, Selman Busnov, Nusret Muhic, Zijad Hamzic, Ramiz Halilovic, Nedzad Hodzic, Hariz Habibovic, Osman Gogic and Kahro Vejzovic, who are indicted for crimes in Kladanj.

On Monday, September 30 the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina will request the extension of custody for Nikola Maric, former member of the Croatian Defence Council, HVO, who is suspected of crimes in Prozor.

On that same day a military expert witness is due to be examined at the trial of Mensur Memic, Dzevad Salcin, Senad Hakalovic, Nedzad Hodzic, Nihad Bojadzic and Zulfikar Alispago, who are charged with crimes in Trusina, near Konjic. The trials of Savo Babic, who is charged with crimes in Bratunac, and Velemir Djuric, Zoran Babic and Dragomir Soldat, who are indicted for crimes in Carakovo village, near Prijedor, continue on Monday as well.

A new Prosecution witness is due to be examined at the trial of Ivan Zelenika, Srecko Herceg, Edib Buljubasic, Ivan Medic and Marina Grubisic- Fejzic, who are charged with crimes in Dretelj military prison, near Capljina, at a hearing scheduled for Tuesday, October 1. On that same day the Defence is due to continue presenting evidence at the trials of Edin Dzeko, who is charged with crimes in Trusina and Jablanica, and Predrag Milisavljevic, Milos Pantelic and Ljubomir Tasic, who are charged with crimes in Visegrad.

On Wednesday, October 2 a new State Prosecution witness is due to be examined at the trial of Ostoja Stanisic and Marko Milosevic, who are charged with genocide in Srebrenica. On Thursday, October 3 a protected Prosecution witness is due to be examined at the trial of Nihad Bojadzic for crimes in Jablanica. On that same day the trials are due to continue in the case against Zeljko Jukic, who is charged with crimes in Prozor, and Zoran Marinic and Zoran Milic for crimes in Busovaca.

The retrial of Milan Peric, Spasoje Doder, Predrag Terzic and Aleksandar Cerovina, who are charged with crimes in Kalinovik, is due to continue on October 1.
