The testimony of the protected witness was closed to the public. The Chamber rejected a proposal by the indictee to reconsider the protection measures previously granted to this witness.
Karadzic questioned witness Davidovic about the problems with formations called “Garda – Panteri” and “Tajfun”. The witness said that he knew that “’Garda’ never wanted to be under military command”.
“Do you know that I issued an order, saying that ‘Tajfun’ should be subordinate to the MUP . When they failed to do it, I ordered that the unit be dismissed. Since this did not happen, I gave an order to arrest them,” the indictee asked Davidovic, who said that he had got “some superficial information” about it.
During the course of additional examination the Prosecution presented the witness with a few documents, explaining that it wanted to prove, by those documents, that Karadzic could influence the work of the bodies, so they conducted investigations into the events in which Serbs were victims.
During the course of his testimony, which began on June 24, Davidovic, a former Inspector with the Federal Secretariat of Internal Affairs of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, SFRJ, spoke about crimes committed by paramilitary formations and the indictee’s link to them.
At the end of the examination, Karadzic smiled and apologised to the witness because of “the fight for facts”, expressing hope that “nobody will suffer any consequences.”
The indictment charges Karadzic, former President of Republika Srpska, with genocide, crimes against humanity and the violation of the laws and customs of war in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995.
