Meddzida Kreso Reappointed President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina

 The president of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been appointed for a period of six years. Kreso was first named to the post in October 2004. 

The HJPC says that it took a number of factors into consideration when making its decision, including Kreso’s qualifications, work experience and results, skills, knowledge and responsible performance of her duties, relations with work colleagues, behaviour outside the office, professional impartiality, reputation and experience in working in managerial positions.

As per the Law on HJPC of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the president of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has to be elected from the pool of State Court judges.

In addition to Kreso, Tihomir Lukes, Izo Tankic, Nenad Seleda, Davorin Jukic and Azra Miletic applied to the position.

Kreso graduated from the Faculty of Law in Sarajevo. She worked as a prosecutor for a number of years and then also as a judge in Mostar.

When the reform of Bosnia’s judiciary was initiated in 2001, she was appointed deputy prosecutor with the Prosecutor’s Office of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In January 2003 she became deputy chief prosecutor with the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Kreso was first appointed judge and president of the State Court on October 10, 2004.
