Savcic Indicted for Srebrenica Genocide

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina has accused the president of the Veterans’ Organization of Republika Srpska, BORS, Milomir Savcic, of assisting in the commission of genocide in Srebrenica in July 1995.
Savcic has been charged, in his capacity as former commander of the 65th Protective Motorized Regiment of the Main Headquarters with the Bosnian Serb Army, VRS, with having planned, commanded and supervised his subordinates’ actions during the seizure of several hundred Bosniak men in the Nova Kasaba area, as well as their unlawful detention, abuse and murder.
According to the charges, in the period between July 11 and 15, 1995 in the Nova Kasaba area Savcic deliberately provided assistance to other participants in a joint criminal enterprise, namely general Ratko Mladic, commander of the VRS’ Main Headquarters, colonel Ljubisa Beara, chief of security of the VRS’ Main Headquarters, and other commanders of the Drinski Corps and Zvornicka Brigade, as well as police units, to capture, summarily execute and bury able-bodied Bosniak men from the Srebrenica enclave and, in that way, destroy them as an ethnic group in a certain area.
Under a first instance verdict handed down by the Hague Tribunal, Mladic was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment for genocide and other crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Ljubisa Beara passed away in a prison in Berlin in 2017, while serving his life sentence imposed by the Hague Tribunal.
