“Until now, not a single DNA finding on the identity of victims came to the Institute for Missing Persons. There haven’t been any DNA matches yet,” Cengic said.
The remains of 24 victims were found at this site, where 20 complete skeletal remains were uncovered. After the exhumation, it was determined that the victims were killed with firearms.
“The remains have indicated that it was a matter of violent death, because the injuries of the majority of the victims were mainly on the head, and their hands were tied with wire behind their backs,” Cengic said.
The grave was discovered on the bank of the Bosna river, near the M17 road, in late May of last year by Elektro Doboj workers. They uncovered the bodies while cleaning the area after floods which stripped off the surface of the grave.
Investigators suspect that twelve of the bodies uncovered are in fact those of Bosniak men from the village of Jablanica near Maglaj, which is 20 kilometers away from Doboj. The bodies may be related to a case involving the murder of sixteen men from Jablanica.
Before the exhumation on the Bosna river, the bones of Jablanica residents were found in Podnovlje and Susnjari in the Doboj area, and also in Sremska Mitrovica in Serbia.
