Testifying at the trial for crimes in the Visegrad area, a Prosecution witness says that indictee Milos Pantelic hit him in May 1992, after he had been taken away from his house in Kabernik village.

Salko Sabanovic told the Court that his village was attacked in May 1992 and that he was then taken to a school building in Orahovci.

“Pantelic hit me with his fist two or three times straight away. I lost two of my teeth immediately. Then I fell down. Some other men beat me on my back. I lasted about 20 minutes,” Sabanovic said.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges Pantelic, Predrag Milisavljevic and Ljubomir Tasic with having participated in the murders, forcible resettlement of population and other inhumane acts.

According to the charges, Milisavljevic and Pantelic committed the crimes as members of the reserve police forces in Visegrad and Tasic as a member of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, during the course of 1992.

Witness Sabanovic said that he was questioned about some arms, which he had bought from a cousin of his. After that he was taken, along with a man named Esad, to the Secretariat of Internal Affairs, SUP in Visegrad, where he was questioned about the arms again.

As he said, Pantelic was among the soldiers, who escorted him to the school building and SUP.

“They did not beat me in SUP premises. We stayed for 15 minutes. They explained to them that there was some video recording in Uzamnica military barracks and that they should see it. We went to the barracks to pick up the recording. Pantelic guarded me. When they realised that there was nothing on the tape, they told me to go home,” Sabanovic said.

He mentioned that Esad stayed, adding that he did not know what happened to him afterwards. His wife told him that he was found in Zepa and that she “was receiving some benefit for the dead”.

The witness was not able to recognise Pantelic in the courtroom. He said that the indictee was about 20 years old at the time, that he had black hair, that he was dressed in reserve police uniform and that he was “a bit overweight”.

The Defence teams are due to examine witness Sabanovic on March 19. A.S.
