Cvijo Popovic, former Commander of the Second Tactical Group with the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, said that Adamovic came from the Kljuc Brigade Command in order to link one of the battalions with this unit, which was based in Magaljdolj village, Mrkonjic Grad municipality.

“His main task was to follow the Battalion, but he also took care of people’s morale. Besides that, he acted as a link with the Kljuc Brigade,” says Popovic, who was the indictee’s superior officer.

The witness said the indictee could not have been assistant commander for morale with the Kljuc Brigade and the Second Tactical Group at the same time.

The State Prosecution charges Marko Adamovic and Bosko Lukic, as members of the Serbian Democratic Party, SDS, Crisis Committee and Kljuc Town Defence Command, with having participated in a joint criminal enterprise by committing crimes against the non-Serb population in the Kljuc area.

According to the charges, Adamovic was Deputy Commander of the Kljuc Battalion with the Territorial Defence of the Kljuc municipality and Commander of the Town Defence Command and Lukic was Commander of the Territorial Defence Headquarters.

The indictment alleges that they participated in crimes against humanity and organised a group of people and abetted their commission of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

Popovic said that Adamovic was “more a peacekeeper than anything else”, adding he “would not forgive him if he did anything”.

“I remember us discussing those evil things. Marko was caught by surprise by those things. I am deeply convinced he is innocent,” Popovic said.

The next hearing is due to take place on Wednesday, January 12.
