The Defence of Vinko Kondic, Bosko Lukic and Marko Adamovic completed cross-examination of witness Atif Dzafic, who appeared at this trial for the fourth time.

The State Prosecution charges the three men with having participated in organizing a group of people and abetting them to commit genocide, as well as crimes against humanity committed in Kljuc Municipality. The indictment alleges that the indictees were high-ranking officials with the police and Republika Srpska, RS, army in 1992.

During his testimony Atif Dzafic said among other things that he was commander of the Public Safety Station, PSS, in Kljuc, adding that, following the appointment of Vinko Kondic as the PSS Chief, the police became “illegal”.

The examination of this witness started on October 29 and continued on November 3 and 5.

During cross-examination Dzafic said that station commanders and their deputies were selected “on the basis of recommendations of and consultations with” the PSS commander.

The witness also said that Kondic “could not have issued orders to members of the State Safety Service”. He added that members of that Service “examined him when he was detained”.

At previous hearings Dzafic said that, as of the summer of 1992 he spent eight months in various detention camps, including Manjaca, near Prijedor.

Answering questions put by Bosko Lukic’s Defence, the witness said that he did not know if the indictee was an active member of the Serbian Democratic Party, SDS.

The trial is due to continue on November 12, when the Prosecution will examine a new witness.
