Strengthening Cooperation Between the Media and the Court of BiH

The meeting which will be held in Sarajevo on June 29 will gather editors, journalists and representatives of the court and prosecutor’s office of BiH in order to discuss ways of improving communication.
Strengthening of cooperation between judicial institutions and the media is critical to the presentation of objective and fair information to the BiH public.
In addition to journalists and editors of prominent BiH media, the president of the Court of BiH, Meddzida Kreso, and the chief prosecutor, Marinko Jurcevic, will also attend the meeting and present their observations and proposals regarding mutual cooperation, in order to inform the public in a timely manner of issues that arise before the court.
Representatives of the public relations department of the Court and Prosecution of BiH, Manuela Hodzic and Boris Grubesic, will speak about the changes in the structure of their departments.
Senka Kurtovic, executive editor of Oslobodjenje daily, and Suzana Stambol, deputy executive editor of state television BHT1, will talk about how journalists see the court’s work and what needs to be done to facilitate reporting and bring the court closer to the public.
Representatives of the Association of Court Reporters will also address those present and present the results of their work in the last nine months.
The association was established last September following the completion of BIRN’s media training, which was aimed at preparing journalists to report from the newly-established war crimes chamber within the Court of BiH.
Its main objective is to ensure continuation of good cooperation between journalists and representatives of the state judiciary.
Monthly meetings of association members have already resulted in positive steps for both the media and the court, but further joint engagement is still necessary.
The association’s work is supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
