The replacement is required because of the poor health of Ljubomir Kitic, but the other two judges in the case Minka Kreho and Zeljka Marinic will remain in the Trial chamber.

The Bosnian prosecution and Saric’s defence did not object the replacement and accepted the proposal of the Chamber that the trial would not start over, but judge Gluhajic would introduce himself with the evidence heard so far, within a fortnight.

Until now, the Bosnian court has heard 11 witnesses and introduced seven pieces of material evidence.

Saric is charged with taking part in a joint criminal enterprise which resulted in 40,000 forcibly removed Bosniak civilians and more than 7,000 killed men from the Srebrenica region.

According to the indictment, Saric commanded the police forces who took part in the searches, disarmament and overtaking of United Nations troops positions, as well as the forcible transfer of women, children and elderly, in addition to the separation of men and boys who would later be killed.

In a separate case, Saric was found guilty under a first-instance verdict of crimes in Sarajevo and sentenced to 14 years in prison.

The trial continues on March 17, when three Prosecution witnesses will be called.
