Mirsad Hodzic, also known as Abu Dzafer, a former member of the Bosnian Army’s El Mujahid detachment, is accused of abducting and torturing three Croat civilians in Travnik in 1993. The state prosecution filed an indictment against Hodzic on Friday, accusing him of abducting three Croat civilians and threatening them with weapons in the Travnik area in October 1993 in order to exchange them for captured members of the El Mujahid Ddetachment.

The prosecution also alleges that the civilians were then transferred to a mujahideen camp in Orasac, where two more kidnapped civilians were held.

It further claims that Hodzic and others then tortured and abused the kidnapped civilians.

The El Mujahid Detachment, which was made up of Islamic volunteer fighters, was part of the Bosnian Army’s Third Corps during the war.

The prosecution believes that Hodzic was previously called Abdalla Hany and is originally from Egypt, and that he has a previous conviction in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The indictment has been filed to the state court for confirmation.

Also on Friday, the state court confirmed the indictment of former Bosnian Serb Army soldier Branislav Gavranovic, charging him with rape in the Prijedor municipality in August 1992.

Gavranovic is accused ofhgoing with another Bosnian Serb Army soldier to the village of Donja Puharska on August 19, 1992 and raping a Bosniak woman in her home.

The indictment alleges that Gavranovic forced the victim to have sex with him while threatening her and her close relatives.

The prosecution has previously said that Gavranovic has dual Bosnian and Swedish citizenship.

In a separate case, the state court also confirmed the indictment of three former Bosnian Serb fighters for committing crimes against humanity in the municipality of Bosanski Novi during wartime.

The indictment alleges that Dragan Balaban and Stojan and Zoran Kenjalo, acting in collaboration with others, persecuted Bosniak civilians from the hamlets of Ekici and Alici as part of a widespread and systematic attack on the Bosanski Novi municipality.
